Her Story

About Rachel

Rachel Smith is a freelance marketing consultant based in the seacoast of New Hampshire. She has over a decade of marketing experience in the industry, having graduated Syracuse in 2015 with a dual degree in International Relations and Public Relations from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. After starting her career at the PR agency Solomon McCown & Company, where she advanced from a coordinator to a senior account executive over three and a half years, she moved to a mission-driven startup for another three and a half years. She then spent four years as digital marketing manager at Ave Maria Press, a mission-driven non-profit publishing house that produces books, media, and content to spread the message of Christ to the world. There, she managed all of the Digital Marketing for the brand, from social media and email campaigns to book launches, influencer relations, and more. She was in this role at the forefront of the digital boom, witnessing firsthand the explosion of digital content, diverse media, and e-commerce–and all of its direct impact on sales. She was able to gain invaluable insight into brand management, creative direct-to-consumer engagement, and how to create needle-moving, conversion-driven relatable, content.

In 2025, after becoming a mom to two littles, she spent some time discerning her next steps and where God was calling her. It became clear that it was time to open more space in her schedule to dedicate and focus on her family. Doing so has been one of the greatest joys of her life. She has since transitioned to running her own freelance business, focusing on e-commerce marketing and email campaigns for clients. Some highlights from her freelanace work include: Growing email revenue by over 50% year over year and achieving first milestone goals of both $1M+ and $2M+ in annual email revenue for clients.

Throughout it all, her deep underlying passion is for mission-driven work. It has acted as the driving force throughout her career. She loves to work with brands to achieve their unique goals and always strives to seek the mission-driven aspect of the work at hand. She deeply believes that every product, every message, has the power to change lives and move hearts. She feels strongly that knowing what that is for your brand is key to creating a successful piece of marketing content–whether an email, a social post, or a landing page. It all begins with the mission.

Rachel also created and currently runs the To Grow Good ministry (togrowgood.com), where she contributes to and manages a group of other female writers who publish relatable and moving reflections each Sunday on that week’s Gospel. Through this ministry, she has released over 70 podcast episodes, each featuring a unique and personal conversion story to Christ. She leads the Women at the Well Bible study in her local community, consisting of over 150 women, and she regularly donates meals to those in need through her local chapter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

In her spare time, she find joys writing creatively, trying out new recipes, exploring new pockets of the beautiful seacoast, and, most of all, spending time with her husband, two children, and Bernese Mountain Dog, Harbor.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Rachel

01What do you attribute your success to?

My faith in God and my willingness to be led by Him and not trying to control every outcome. In my life, I learned that once I let go and let Him lead, He brought to life all my passions, skills, and dreams in a way I never could have imagined.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Be yourself. Be authentic. Your voice is unique, for a reason. Don’t ever be afraid to speak up, especially if you have something in mind that is different from the rest of the group. Also, be authentic to who you are and what you need in each season of life. A job is never the end all, be all. I’ve found that if you let things go and ask God to lead you, He will provide the perfect next step crafted uniquely and meant just for you.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Lean into your creativity and your superpower of empathy. As women, we see things differently. We have a special gift for relating to others and this is extremely valuable when it comes to marketing, creating relatable content, and, ultimately, driving conversions/sales. The best copy, the best campaigns, are the most authentic ones that actually speak to the heart and make people feel something true. It may seem silly, based on what the world has tried to hammer into you, but your unique perspective and voice as a female is actually one of your greatest strengths.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

AI is completely changing the game. Overnight I watched it totally transform the way we create email campaigns or draft content. It’s extremely powerful and can be incredibly effective. I see it as one of the biggest opportunities, but also one of the biggest challenges. It’s essential to keep “big T” truth and authenticity as the foundation in anything you create using AI.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

God, love, family, giving back, honesty, transparency, trust. I truly believe that when we let go and let God, our lives open up. When we give ourselves away in service to others parts of our hearts come alive in new and unexpected ways, leading us down the paths we are made for.
