Her Story
About Rachel
I graduated from Johnson & Wales University with an Associates in Culinary Arts in 1998 and a Bachelor's in Hotel Restaurant Management in 2000. I started in culinary but pivoted to the front of the house and hotel management after realizing the challenges in professional kitchens as a shorter woman in the 90s. I moved into sales management, starting as sales manager right after COVID and advancing to senior sales manager. I focus on building relationships with corporate clients and entertainment reps to drive revenue through groups and travel bookings.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Rachel
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success comes from dedication and always being willing to learn more. People have helped me along the way and supported me through different properties.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Be yourself, be honest, be truthful, and don't sugarcoat things. Especially in the hospitality industry, you need to be really clear with clients like travel agents and entertainment reps because it's their livelihood and they trust you with their business.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Work hard and don't take no for an answer. Believe in yourself and trust your gut.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
AI is both a help and a challenge because while it assists with certain things, customer service needs that personal touch. Clients want to speak to a live representative rather than prompts.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Commitment, honesty, partnerships, and ownership are key. Owning up to mistakes is important. Family is big, and I like to support and help others.
