Her Story
About Rachel
I have an undergraduate and master's degree in art history, but I started out, actually, in the auction business. I realized that the art field wasn't really it for me, and I was working in administration at the auction house, and I just kind of fell in love with it. Personally, I am a very organized person, I like to plan, I like to make sure that I have all of my details and ducks in a row, and this line of administrative work just came very naturally to me. I worked for a CEO of Whole Earth Brands for 2 years, and he really was a mentor to me in a lot of ways, because he let me in on every level of the business, and he explained to me how every level of the business worked so that I could manage his priorities, but also I could learn the flow of business. I also worked for a nonprofit, the American Board of Medical Specialties, and the department I worked for helped doctors abroad become board-certified in the United States so that they can practice in the United States. My work is really the backbone and the foundation of the operations of the entire enterprise, and if they didn't have someone like me doing all of this administrative work and checking the details and making sure things run smoothly, they wouldn't have a platform for the kind of success that they're able to achieve.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My biggest piece of advice would be that you're going to come across a lot of people who are very demanding, or who maybe have a kind of attitude with you, or something like that, and I want everyone to know that that's not a reflection on them as a person or as an employee, that as long as they make sure that they keep calm under pressure and keep a positive attitude, everything will turn out fine.
02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My number one value is relationships. It is the key driver in making sure that I'm successful and that the leaders I support are successful. The second one would be just a general level of calm under pressure, because in my role and the leaders I support, they're always under a lot of pressure, so making sure that I'm really that source of calm for everyone in the office, but particularly my leader. And then, I would say the third one is just having a positive attitude, because I think coming to work with positive attitude every day and really a good, positive perspective makes everything run more smoothly.
