Her Story
About Rachelle
Rachelle Sims is a dedicated nursing professional whose career reflects a lifelong commitment to protecting and caring for others. After beginning in banking and a role with the USDA, she transitioned into nursing as her second career, completing her education at Indiana University. There, she overcame a learning disability and earned the student body award for succeeding against all odds, along with multiple academic honors. She spent many years at the VA working in ICU and program development before retiring, then pursued nine years of travel nursing and a period with a local hospice company in South Carolina. Sims attributes her drive to an early inclination to support those being picked on, which naturally progressed into nursing when she left her USDA position to ensure her grandfather could age in place at home. She now resides in Eutawville, South Carolina, where she continues to research holistic approaches to health, medications, and symptom management while considering her next professional steps.

Ten minutes with Rachelle
01What do you attribute your success to?
I've always been someone who's drawn to protecting people who were being picked on. It became a natural progression into nursing when I left my USDA job to take care of my grandfather in his last years, hiring resources so he could stay at home and age in place.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Look at where you want to end up and build backwards from there. Start making your network connections to get to that point, and build your career backwards in your mind from there. Target your training, networking, and education towards that goal.
