Her Story
About Racquel
I've been in the construction industry since my early twenties and have spent the last 7 years in outside sales. I got into this field by taking a job after school and immediately fell in love with learning about the products. What really inspired me to pursue outside sales is that I'm someone who loves to find solutions and help people out. I wanted to be a specialist in my field, so I've continuously worked to learn more and more about products to better help my clients. My typical day starts with cardio to get my blood flowing, then I write out my plan for the day - who I'm going to call, what I need to follow up with, and who I'm going to visit. Before I walk out the door, I journal and manifest my day, which has played a huge role in my success. Sales is a hard job and you're going to get a lot of no's, so you have to keep your mind strong and stay very positive. I speak affirmations to myself and think about who I want to be in this industry and who I want to affect in a positive way. Then I hit up customers at job sites and offices, and sometimes deliver material. One of my biggest challenges has been working in a male-dominated industry and showing them my worth - that I'm not just a female or a pretty face, but that I know my value and what I can provide. I've built a very good reputation in the industry, and I think that's why I love it - I want to show the world, my daughter, and all the little girls that you can be somebody in a man's industry.

Ten minutes with Racquel
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to manifesting and keeping a strong, positive mindset. Every morning before I walk out the door, I journal and manifest my day - what I'm going to do and who I'm going to become in the industry. Sales is a hard job and you're going to get a lot of no's, so you have to keep your mind strong and stay very positive. I speak affirmations to myself and think about who I want to be in this industry and who I want to affect in a positive way. This practice of manifestation has played a huge role in my success. I also focus on continuously learning and becoming a specialist in my field by getting certified in different products and partnering with vendors and manufacturers. My commitment to helping others and finding solutions for my clients, combined with building healthy relationships based on respect and communication, has been key to my success.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Believe in yourself. Don't let anything stop you - go for what you want and what you believe. My biggest famous saying is, as long as I did it with my heart, I know I did my best. That's my motto, that's what I live by. So if somebody's angry or somebody's mad, as long as I let my heart speak and I do it with my heart, I know I did my best, I know I've tried. I want to show the world, my daughter, and all the little girls that you can be somebody in a man's industry. You can definitely kick ass and go out there and show them what you're made of.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge I face is working in a male-dominated industry as a woman. I've had to work hard at showing them my worth - that I'm not just a female or a pretty face in the industry. I know my worth, I know my value, and I know what I can provide. With that focus, I've built a very good reputation in the industry. All the other stuff - the finding product for customers or getting material out to the job site - that's nothing compared to earning respect. If I can get through the fact that they can respect me and know that I can handle any situation, that's my biggest challenge, and I've done a really good job. I think that's why I love this industry - I want to show to the world, to my daughter, and all the little girls that you can be somebody in a man's industry.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Respect and communication are my most important values. I think our biggest failure as human beings is lack of communication - not talking things out, holding a grudge, and not understanding one another. So I always start with love yourself first. And then if something's hurting you, talk about it. Let's communicate with one another. I'm about having relationships. I can't get through a day, or we can't work together, whether you be internally or outside, without having healthy relationships. Those are the values I live by. I also believe in doing everything with my heart - as long as I did it with my heart, I know I did my best. That's my motto.
