Her Story

About Rahel

I started my career in the 80s in technology, beginning as a developer before moving into leadership roles at Digital Equipment Corporation, Liberty Mutual, and Microsoft. After earning a master's in leadership and organizational development and a coaching certification, I left Microsoft in 2012 to found Abraham Associates LLC, focusing on coaching leaders like my former self. I served as an internal coach at Amazon from 2019 until restarting my independent practice recently, emphasizing team coaching and helping leaders adapt to change.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Rahel

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my parents who instilled a good work ethic, and continuously having a clear purpose. When I have purpose, especially after becoming a single parent, I am unstoppable; without it, I flounder.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Do what you love, the rest will follow. And if you're not constantly learning, you're ending or retiring. It doesn't matter what stage, but if you have stopped learning, I think it's time to stop.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Get some experience yourself as a leader first because academic knowledge alone is not enough to understand the weight leaders carry. Get properly trained by people who know what they're doing. Before charging for coaching, volunteer for about a year to understand the value you're adding. Continue to be supported and coached yourself.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The challenge of how AI will inform or affect our industry, and how to maintain focus on humanity and stay connected to the person in front of me and humanity as a whole while navigating rapid changes.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity is most critical, being true to yourself and to your mission.
