About Rainy
Rainy Holt is a community restoration specialist with over 20 years of experience spanning customer service, retail training, community care centers, and two years with AmeriCorps, where she helped launch a local housing program and built a partnership connecting WIC services with ASQ developmental screenings across 17 Indianapolis clinics. She earned an Associate's Degree from Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis and is currently pursuing a Project Management Certification. After relocating to San Diego, California, Holt founded Heart the Block Collective to develop and facilitate programming that strengthens self-esteem, confidence, and conflict resolution skills for young girls, initially at her son's former middle school with plans to expand into after-school programs, Parks and Recreation, Boys and Girls Clubs, and YMCA sites. She attributes her professional drive to values of trustworthiness and integrity, and she draws on career advice to reinvent herself when needed and to recognize that she is whole and complete in any space she enters.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Rainy
01What do you attribute your success to?
My mom instilled confidence in me as a young African-American girl by telling me there's nobody on this planet who is you, so step into spaces confidently. She was a teenage mom who overcame abuse and wanted her kids to stand up for themselves.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't stay in one place too long. When I'm not happy or things are not treating me well, move along. Reinvent yourself, no matter your age or education level.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
You are whole and complete in any place you step into. There's always room for learning and growth, but you are not deficient in anything. You are a whole being, which gives you the confidence to trust yourself in the decisions you make.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Being trustworthy and having integrity. Be a person of your word, do the right thing even when no one is looking. It brings everything else.
