Her Story
About Ramsha
I am a banker at Navy Federal Credit Union, where I have been working in the financial industry for 3 years. In my role, I help people manage their finances and resolve any issues they may have with their accounts. I also educate members on how to protect themselves from fraud and scams, which is especially crucial these days. Last year, I received a personalized card from the VP of Navy Federal Credit Union as a token of appreciation for my achievements. I am currently getting trained to be a vault custodian, which is a competitive position within the branch. I started my career in the United States with only $60 that my dad had sent me with, and I had no friends or family here. The only thing I had was confidence in myself and the courage to work hard. I hold an associate's degree in psychology, which I graduated with last year. Empathy is the greatest value that has helped me throughout my career, because when I show empathy to the members of the credit union at work, it makes a real difference and they feel that they can trust in me to take care of them.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Ramsha
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say having confidence in myself, because I basically started my career in the United States with only $60. My dad had sent me to USA, and I only had $60 and had no friends or family here. So, I mean, the only thing I had was, like, having confidence in myself and the courage to work hard. That's what has made me successful.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received was not to settle down for your comfort zone. Because as soon as you settle down from your comfort zone, your growth stops. You gotta step outside of that in order to, like, continue to grow.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say to never give up, because one thing that I strongly believe is that success is never owned, it is rented, and the rent is due every day. You gotta, you gotta, like, do your part every single day, and even if, like, you're not feeling that you are, like, you're getting the results, just keep on going.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I would say that it is very competitive. It is very competitive not only for the positions outside the branch, but also within the branch. Right now I'm basically getting trained to be a vault custodian, and there are other people who are also in the competition. So the biggest challenge is competition. It is very competitive.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I would say empathy is the greatest one, because it has helped me a lot through my career. And it helps me a lot when I show empathy to the members of the credit union at work. That makes a real difference. Then they feel that they have the trust in me that I'm gonna take care of them.
