Her Story

About Rana

Rana Gidron is a Certified Surgical Technician with 22 years of experience supporting surgical teams. Her daily responsibilities include preparing operating rooms based on upcoming procedures, ensuring all necessary instrumentation is available for patient safety, passing instruments during surgeries, and assisting with patient positioning. She works closely with nurses, anesthesiologists, and surgeons, and has been known to pray with patients when requested. Gidron graduated from Bloom Technical High School in Chicago and later from Dayton Job Corps, where she earned her certification as a nursing assistant along with her diploma, becoming the first person in Job Corps history to achieve this at her age. She remains active in professional and community organizations, including the National Hookup of Black Women Northwest Indiana chapter for two years and as an alumnus of Bloom Technical High School. Gidron has joined Rush Hospital on mission trips twice to Ecuador, Paraza, and the Dominican Republic to provide care to underserved communities. She is a dedicated suicide prevention advocate who has participated in walks for six years and continues to give back to her high school. Passionate about education and empowerment, Gidron plans to pursue nursing studies to educate within her community, emphasizing that knowledge is power and that professionals should be more than their instrumentation by taking pride in their work as integral members of the surgical team.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell young women starting off to always be more than just your instrumentation. You need to be knowledgeable in every aspect of what you do. Take pride in your work. You are an integral part of the surgical team here to make a difference. Always ask yourself what kind of mark are you going to leave on this world when we leave here? What will somebody remember you as? Life is so much more than just taking, but it's also giving. Pour into others.
