Raquel’s passion for human resources began early in her career through an internship with VINCAM Human Resources, a professional employer organization that introduced her to payroll administration, risk management, workers’ compensation, and employee support services. That experience inspired her to pursue advanced education in the field, earning a Master of Science in Human Resources Management from Florida International University, along with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Trinity International University. She further strengthened her professional credentials by obtaining the highly respected SPHR and SHRM-SCP certifications, demonstrating her expertise in strategic HR leadership and organizational development.
In 2025, Raquel transitioned into entrepreneurship by launching 3LC Insurance Consulting Services, where she now serves as a Benefits Advisor Professional and Broker. Drawing on her extensive HR background, she helps employers design competitive benefits strategies that improve employee satisfaction and attract top talent. Beyond her consulting work, she is actively involved in professional and community organizations, including SHRM, ChamberSOUTH, and Human Resources Banking Partners, which she co-founded to connect HR professionals within the banking industry. What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the strong mentors, education, and professional experiences that have shaped my career in human resources. One of my greatest influences was Norman Powell, a CPA and mentor who taught me the importance of professionalism, integrity, and doing things the right way. Earning my Master’s degree in Human Resources from Florida International University and obtaining my SHRM certifications further strengthened my expertise, while my early experience at VINCAM Human Resources sparked my passion for helping businesses manage and support their employees effectively. I also value staying actively involved in the HR community through organizations like SHRM and through co-founding Human Resources Banking Partners, which brings HR professionals together to share knowledge and build meaningful connections.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received came from a mentor who emphasized the importance of professionalism, integrity, and always doing things the right way. He taught me to be detail-oriented, uphold high ethical standards, and approach every responsibility “by the book,” lessons that have continued to guide my career and leadership style.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women entering the industry to take risks, believe in their abilities, and not be afraid to create opportunities for themselves. I strongly believe in mentorship and have always valued helping others grow professionally and personally. Seeing people I’ve mentored succeed, including becoming entrepreneurs themselves, has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is keeping up with constantly changing regulations and retirement-plan requirements, including legislation such as the SECURE Act and its impact on 401(k) plans. At the same time, these changes also create opportunities for organizations to design stronger, more competitive benefits programs that help attract and retain top talent in an evolving workforce.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My faith and church community are central to both my personal and professional life. I spend a significant amount of time volunteering, mentoring women through different life experiences, and giving back to the community through church outreach programs. I also deeply value integrity and professionalism, principles that were reinforced by mentors who taught me the importance of doing things the right way and maintaining high standards. On a personal level, I enjoy cooking from scratch and bringing people together through meals shared with friends and family.
