Her Story
About Rasheena
Rasheena Henderson serves as a caseworker with the Department of Family Protective Services, focusing on social work and child protective services. She has spent seven years with the agency in multiple capacities, including time as a caseworker in the field, mentor, supervisor, and trainer, before returning to direct work with families and children because she missed the hands-on aspect. Earlier in her career, she worked for three years as a supervisor at a pediatric home health company caring for high-acuity, medically fragile children and also spent time in sales. Her educational journey began in East Texas at the University of Texas at Tyler and Tyler Junior College, where she earned an associate's degree in general studies before pursuing social work studies, and she later completed her degree at the University of North Texas after relocating to the Dallas area in 2016 and returning to school in 2017. Outside of her primary role, she has volunteered with Our Daily Bread, a charity supporting the homeless population. Rasheena attributes her success to setting boundaries and engaging in intentional self-care to avoid burnout, and she advises young women entering the field to ensure their heart is in the work since it is a true career that requires genuine commitment.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Rasheena
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say setting boundaries, learning when I myself am getting kind of tired and burnt out because it does happen. So taking those moments to really do some self-care and be intentional about it, learning when to cut work off.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Know that it's a career and make sure your heart is in it. If your heart is not in it you won't last long and then every day will feel like work.
