Ten minutes with Rasika

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to continuous learning and being adaptable. I've always been learning, doing personal hands-on learning, keeping myself updated about the field. I've worked in diverse work settings, so being adaptable to all environments has helped me.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

One of the best career advice I received is don't go behind money, go behind your passion, because money will follow. I have always worked in areas where I have liked and not taken jobs I didn't like, believing that if you're passionate, you'll put 100% in it and money and recognition will follow.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The advice I would give to women in the industry is stay consistent, follow your passion. There will be a lot of cycles and challenges when working in the education industry, but do not give up. It requires an unstoppable mindset and passion towards the work. If your mindset is genuine, nothing can set you back. Stay consistent every day even when difficulties come.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Opportunities include growing within the industry, working with different age groups, counseling different students, setting up my own business as a future plan, and the skills being transferable so I can change roles or go into student support. Challenges include wanting students to do something but they do what they want, so changing their mindset to be positive and impacting their lives positively.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In my professional life, being compassionate and energetic is important because I deal with students who come with problems and challenges, not just numbers. Time management, organization, communication, and ethics are very important. Ethics should be above everything as education and ethics are interrelated.
