About Rebecca
With 17 years of experience as a CNA, my journey in healthcare began at the bedside, where I learned that caring for people from all walks of life and cultures, that caring for people is about far more than treating a diagnosis. It’s about seeing the whole person-their story, dignity, fears, Strengths, family, and over all quality of life.
Those years at the bedside shaped the foundation of everything I do today.
My nursing career gave me firsthand experience navigating the realities of healthcare, advocating patients and residents and families, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and understanding the unique needs of older adults and other residents and patients. Working directly with patients taught me the importance of compassionate care, strong communication, clinical knowledge, and treating every individual with dignity and respect. Over the years, that passion evolved into a broader mission: To improve the experience of aging and elevate the standard of care for senior and residential communities.
From Bedside Nurse to Author and Healthcare Educator
My experience working within healthcare and senior care communities led me to become an author in the assisted living industry, using my knowledge and experiences to educate, inspire, and bring greater awareness to the challenges and opportunities within the assisted living and healthcare nurses.
My work has also expanded beyond the written page through guest speaking engagements with the assisted living communities and healthcare professionals, including nurses and others working within the healthcare industry. These opportunities allow me to share practical knowledge, real-world experiences, and a perspective shaped by years of direct patient and resident care.

01What do you attribute your success to?
One of the greatest attributes that has led Rebecca to success with Radiant Pathways is her authenticity. Rebecca has built her work around genuinely seeing people for who they are, meeting them where they are, and creating an environment where they feel accepted, valued, and heard.
Her success comes from more than professional knowledge-it comes from her compassion, determination, and willingness to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. 02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Some of the greatest advise I have received during my career as a nurse was simple, but it has stayed with me throughout my life: Treat people the way you would want to be treated.
As a nurse, I learned that every person has a story. Patients and residents may be scared, hurting, or uncertain, and some times the most important thing you can give someone is compassion, patience, and the feeling that they are truly being heard. Nursing taught me that how you treat people matters as a reflection of who you are and matters as much as what you do for them.
That lesson has carried directly into my life as a business owner.
I have learned that strong leadership starts with a solid foundation. Before you can effectively lead others, you have to establish your own values, integrity, vision, and work ethic. A business built on a weak foundation will eventually struggle, but one built on trust, consistency, accountability, and genuine care can withstand challenges and continue to grow.
Being a leader does not mean having all the answers or being the loudest person in the room. It means setting the example, making difficult decisions when necessary, taking responsibility for your actions, and treating people with respect.
My experience in healthcare taught me how to care for people. Entrepreneurship has taught me how to lead them. Together, those experiences have shaped the kind of leader I strive to be: Someone who leads with integrity, serves with compassion, and builds on a foundation strong enough to support others.
The greatest lesson is that whether you are caring for a patient or serving a client, people remember how you made them feel. And strong leadership begins with never losing sight of that.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Advice to Young Women Entering the Nursing Profession
My advice to young women entering the nursing and healthcare industry is simple: be patient, lead with compassion, and never take life for granted.
As a nurse, you will care for people from all walks of life. Remember that people are human-no one is perfect. Patients and residents may be scared, frustrated, confused, or having one of the most difficult moments of their lives. How you interact with them matters. Treat every person with patience, dignity, kindness, and respect, no one stays young forever, we all age and at some point in life, we need assistance when our bodies no longer functions and our hair turns grey.
One of the most rewarding parts of nursing is the relationships you build-not only with your patients and residents, but with their families as well. Take the time to listen, learn their stories, and build trust. Go the extra mile, even when no one is watching, but the man upstairs is always watching. Those small acts of kindness can mean more to someone than you may ever realize.
Nursing goes far deeper than earning a certificate or degree and putting a title behind your name. It is about compassion, respect, loyalty, integrity, and genuinely caring for the people entrusted to you. The connections you make and the lives you touch can be far more rewarding than nay paycheck.
Most importantly, make sure nursing is your calling-not simply a financial quick fix or a career you choose because it seems like a good way to make money. Healthcare can be very demanding, emotionally exhausting, and challenging at times, but when you truly have a heart for caring for others, it can also be incredibly meaningful.
Never forget that behind every chart, diagnoses, room number, father, grandmother, grandfather, daughter, son, or someone who simply needs to feel seen , heard, and cared for.
If you choose nursing, choose it with your whole heart. Be compassionate. Be patient. Build relationships. Give more that what is expected. And remember that the impact you make one someone's life will always be more valuable than a paycheck.

Bridging Care and Community: The Evolving Role of Nurses in Assisted Living and Healthcare
Assisted living was once considered the middle ground between independent living and nursing home-help with meals, medication reminders, and activities of daily living (ADLs). That definition no longer fits. Residents are arriving older, sicker, and with more complex chronic conditions than ever before, and nurses are at the center of that shift.
In 2026, the nurse in assisted living is no longer just a clinical safety net. She is a care coordinator, technologist, educator, mental health advocate, and operational leader.
1. From Custodial Support to High-Acuity Clinical Care
The biggest driver of change is acuity. As nursing homes close and hospital stays shorten, assisted living is becoming what operators now call an "intermediate care facility."
Residents who would have been in skilled nursing five years ago are now in assisted living with heart failure, COPD, diabetes with insulin management, early-stage Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, dementia, and complex polypharmacy.
That means the RN and LPN role has expanded far beyond medication pass:
- Chronic Disease Management: Titrating care plans for multiple co-morbidities and monitoring for subtle changes that could trigger hospitalization.
- Infection Control and Wound Care: Post-acute skills once reserved for SNFs.
- Medication Complexity: The average assisted living resident takes 8-10 prescription medications, requiring careful reconciliation and adverse event monitoring.
- Assessment as Prevention: Nurses are now expected to catch a UTI, dehydration, or medication interaction 48 hours before it becomes an ER visit.
This clinical pressure is reflected in workforce data-assisted living communities rely heavily on RNs and LPNs for daily clinical care, and those staffing levels have changed since 2020.

In the hospital, a patient has a team around the bed. In assisted living, the nurse is the team builder.
Today's assisted living nurse coordinates:

The American Assisted Living Nurses Association (AALNA), one of the newest professional organizations in long-term care, was formed specifically to define this quarterback role as assisted living becomes more healthcare-oriented.
Effective nurses now spend as much time on communication and documentation as on direct care: building individualized service plans, translating physician orders into daily routines for CNAs, and leading family care conferences.
3. Technology Is Now Part of the Job Description
The 2026 care model is no longer optional or experimental-nearly 9 in 10 nurse leaders embraced a new care model in the last year. Much of that is tech-enabled.
- Remote Monitoring and Wearables: Fall detection sensors, smart watches tracking heart rate and sleep, and in-room sensors alerting to changes in movement.
- Telehealth: Nurses facilitate virtual visits, present physical findings, and execute orders in real time.

Modern assisted living nursing emphasizes:

Expect dedicated memory care RNs, chronic care-certified LPNs, and nurses certified in palliative and gerontological care.
2. Hybrid Roles
Home health nurse coordinators and internal float nurses are already being hired by 2 in 5 leaders. The line between assisted living, home health, and primary care will continue to blur.
3. A Stronger Voice in Policy
As more Medicaid and federal dollars flow toward assisted living and oversight grows, nurses will be critical advocates for realistic staffing ratios, scope-of-practice clarity, and reimbursement for clinical work done in residential settings.
The Bottom Line
The assisted living nurse of 2015 could focus on being competent, kind, and organized. The assisted living nurse of 2026 has to be all of that and more, plus a chronic disease specialist, a tech interpreter, a team leader, and an advocate for dignified aging.
It's a harder job. It's also a more essential one. As our senior population grows more complex and wants to age outside of institutional nursing home-like living, with hospital-level vigilance, the nurse is not just support staff-she is the reason the model works at all.
