Rebecca holds a GED and has pursued professional development through ICCFA trainings and internal company schooling. She received an award for service excellence from the Archbishop of Detroit Catholic Cemeteries for her role at CFCS. She is a member of the ICCFA, the International Funeral and Cemetery Association. She values honesty and hard work, and she advises not giving up when facing challenges in the industry.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Rebecca

01What do you attribute your success to?

My husband encouraged me to answer the call from the cemetery during the pandemic and not be scared. My grandma said you don't need to be scared of the dead, it's the living. My manager and mentors reinforced that.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

You're gonna get a lot of no's before you get a yes. So take those no's as an opportunity, as getting closer to your yes.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Not to give up. If you are young and you're able to enter into this industry, then stick with it... especially young women coming into here, keep going, keep going, keep going, because once you've got the experience, and once you have the knowledge... Just don't give up.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Talking about something that nobody wants to talk about. It's like getting a mature person to plan for their final arrangements, similar to putting a kid through high school - it might take a lot of no's to get a yes to start the conversation.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty and hard work.
