Her Interview
Ten minutes with Rebecca
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success I attribute to Scott and my mother. My mother was amazing. She taught me everything.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Never say you can't. It comes in cans and cannots. If you think you can't, you're right. Listen more than you talk, be the last person to speak, read the room and body language. Always say you will do your best, and if you make a mistake, admit it and move on.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Get every certification they offer you, even if it seems boring, you might love it. Don't stick with programming. Move into other opportunities like security, storage, network, or moving applications to the cloud. Women do big picture architecture beautifully.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Infrastructure is a great field with opportunities in storage, server, network, security, and moving old applications to the cloud. Security is critical because no system is truly secure, only safeguarded, so knowing how to respond when hacked is key.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Complete honesty, don't cover things up. Be kind even when angry, because you don't know what the other person has been through. My values come from the Ten Commandments: love your Lord with all your heart, mind, and soul, and love everybody else.
