Rebecca Gonzalez is a dedicated Journalism student at California State University, Chico, where she continues to refine her skills in reporting, writing, and editorial leadership. Before transferring to Chico State, she attended Butte Community College, where she earned a GPA award in 2023 and gained early newsroom experience through her college newspaper. Her academic background reflects a strong commitment to excellence and growth, with a particular focus on sports journalism, a passion inspired by years of watching sports alongside her brother.
Rebecca began her journalism journey in 2021, immediately following her high school graduation. Starting as a reporter, she quickly advanced to the role of sports editor, demonstrating her ability to lead, motivate, and collaborate with peers. In her current role at the school newspaper, she oversees story assignments, manages a small team of reporters, and ensures balanced workloads and timely publication. Despite challenges such as staff turnover following recent graduations, Rebecca has maintained newsroom momentum through thoughtful communication, adaptability, and strong editorial planning.
Recognized for her editorial leadership and commitment to quality coverage, Rebecca takes pride in fostering teamwork and productivity during times of transition. Outside of her academic and newsroom responsibilities, Rebecca enjoys watching sports, drawing, and baking, with her homemade cinnamon rolls being a favorite among family and friends.
