About Rebecca

I retired after 31 years in the utility industry and now have my own business, Rethought LLC, that I've been running for 5 years but am now full-time. I started as a chemist working in a laboratory right out of college. During my first 7 years, I was given the opportunity to work with quality improvement teams, leading quality improvement circles, which plays into what I do currently with my business. I went from that into supervisory and management roles. The two biggest highlights of my career were becoming the company's first internally certified Lean Six Sigma black belt at this multi-billion dollar company, helping to launch that program to the entire enterprise and working on enterprise-level projects as a senior continuous improvement specialist reporting to the COO. The second highlight was launching the first-ever innovation center for that same company, an enterprise-level project reporting to the CIO, where my team led onboarding of new and emerging technologies including autonomous robots, virtual reality, and augmented reality. Over my career, I had extensive experience leading team meetings, working with teams on problem solving, and realized this is a skill that a lot of leaders aren't taught. We're taught many things, but not specifically how to lead meetings and how to have better meetings. The last 5 years of my career, I was working remote with a remote team, which just complicated the meeting problems you saw in in-person meetings. This is where I started thinking about my business, helping people understand how to have better meetings - can we have better quality meetings, can we have fewer meetings that have better quality, and eliminate some of the waste out of the meetings we have. That's what I work on currently with Rethought LLC. I call myself the meeting architect and help people design better meetings. I launched my book, The Meeting Room: Navigating the Complexity of Being a Team Lead, in November 2025, and I am a best-selling author on Amazon. This year I launched my LinkedIn newsletter at the beginning of the year, just publishing my 8th edition, and it's getting good traction on LinkedIn. My newsletter has a Monday morning meeting move with tactical things people can do starting Monday morning, an AI spotlight exploring how AI can help with better meetings, and a third section on the science behind better meetings, drawing on 3 to 4 decades of research that can inform us on how to have better meetings. Right now I'm building an online course that will be a companion to my book. I am a public keynote speaker and just spoke at the Utilities Change Management Conference at the end of January, am scheduled to speak at the International Society for Performance Improvement conference in Nashville on April 1st, and at the Certified Scrum Alliance conference in Vancouver in May. I am available to come speak on the topic of how to have better meetings. I train teams, coach individuals, and am currently launching a cohort that goes with my book so people can learn more about what's in my book inside of a cohort.
