01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a couple of things. First, I am the daughter of a very strong mother, and one of the great lessons that I learned from her is it's what you do when no one's looking that counts. So it's not merely putting on the performative actions, but it's really holding yourself to that standard every day. That's definitely something that I hope to pass on - I hope that I have passed on to my son, who's really grown. Second, because of my training in music and because I was in a conservatory, an old-school conservatory where you needed to show up prepared or you were shamed within an inch of your life, I know what it's like to reach for perfection, maybe not reach it, but maybe touch it. Perfectionism is the shadow side, but I know that you can't be afraid of the reps. You just have to practice and practice. In my world now, I practice and practice. I learn something new, I practice and practice. That's the key to everything, more than talent.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My best advice is, I think it's really important for young women to trust their instincts. I think that there have been times where, again, especially in a male-prevalent industry, it can happen where the loudest voice in the room starts to take over. You really feel like you've got an idea, or you feel like you need to be voiced or be heard, I think that there really is something with going for it and offering it. Sometimes you'll get burned, but oftentimes I think that you can find a place for your voice that really people were waiting for it.
