Her Story
About Rebekah
Before becoming a professor, I worked as a manager in both retail and administration, gaining real-world experience that I now bring into the classroom. With that management background and while pursuing my education, I transitioned into teaching management and HR courses at the college level. My main area of expertise is leadership, which has always been my passion - understanding what leadership really looks like and how you work with people and portray that. In my role, I don't just lecture for an hour. Instead, I spend a lot of my time doing research and finding new ways to implement material so students actually understand it. I focus on creating a classroom environment of strategic thinking and applied learning, developing assignments that help students think strategically about how to apply what we're talking about. I'm currently working on my doctorate degree, which teaches me to think deeper and helps with research for what I need to teach. But really, when you teach management classes, you can't just learn from a textbook - you need real-world case studies and experiences, because remembering terms won't help you when you're actually out there leading and managing people.

01What do you attribute your success to?
This may not be a popular thing to say, I don't know, but my success is from God, 100%. I have seen Him work through everything I've done and open doors that I didn't think possible for me to get to. So I know it's gotten through hard work, and it's my family being supportive. Like I said, I have 5 children, so they have to be okay with mom going and pursuing these things. And so, it's been definitely all of that combined - God opening doors, hard work, and my family's support.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Take it one day at a time. Especially as a manager, because you might want to quit every single day. But you know, if you just take it a day at a time, it'll be okay.
