Her Story

About Reema

I worked in the telecom domain for 5 years at Samsung and Qualcomm as a system engineer but was more interested in customer issues and people management than technical coding. I decided to pursue my MBA at UCSD's Rady School of Management to transition into product management. Now as an MBA student and president of the AI club, my days are filled with classes, networking, events, and club leadership.

Ten minutes with Reema

01What do you attribute your success to?

My husband has been really supportive, encouraging me to take a break and pursue what I really want to do. Once I got his backing, I realized this was something I should have been doing.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

My mentor at Qualcomm told me I sometimes miss small details when trying to get things done. His feedback made me change how I filter things and become a more efficient leader who listens to everything and doesn't ignore small data.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Believe in yourself. Don't think you are left behind from anyone. Be motivated by small successes and achievements. Don't lose believing in yourself, focus with all your energy, and don't let setbacks stop you.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

AI is both the biggest challenge and opportunity right now. If you are able to master it, it becomes an opportunity, and if not, it becomes a challenge. Everyone should explore AI out of their domain and be curious about it.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In my personal and work life, I value having people around me as a team to work with. In the management domain, it's all about team and leadership. An individual can't go very far without a team to back you up.
