Her Story
About Regena
Regena Johnson serves as an operations lead for healthcare payers, focusing on Medicaid. In this role, she leads operational teams responsible for claim adjudication and ensuring that Medicaid acts as the payer of last resort. She supports these efforts through automations and structured processes. Johnson holds a bachelor's degree and returned to school to complete her master's degree about three years ago, after not having been in a classroom for 30 years. She is considering pursuing a JD in the future while remaining in the healthcare space, potentially in corporate law. Outside of her professional work, Johnson volunteers with CASA, Students Without Mothers, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. She attributes her professional success to her faith in God and the example set by her mother, who demonstrated a life of service. Johnson advises young women entering the field to be curious and tenacious, to come prepared with solutions, to learn from others, to take risks, and to stand in their power by raising their voices.

Ten minutes with Regena
01What do you attribute your success to?
I really contribute that one God. I'm a big faith believer. And then my upbringing. My mother especially, just, she demonstrated that for us. We saw that in motion every day.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Well, I would give young women starting out, whether it's healthcare or any field, right, to be curious, right? And to be tenacious, because you don't always have to be the loudest voice in the room, but you have to come with solutions and be willing to learn from others, and never be the smartest person in the room quicker. Don't be afraid to take risk, because even in that, you learn so much. If you have the solution, if you have something to contribute, be a voice, right? And stand in your power.
