Her Interview
Ten minutes with Regina
01What do you attribute your success to?
My motivation comes from seeing children on the street without proper care because their parents had to work. I used to bring them to my mom's house, give them baths, brush their hair. I wanted to be home for my own children and started my family home daycare with my grands because I couldn't fathom them being in daycare. I always wanted to provide that home-like feeling.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
This is a job that you must love. Childcare has a great turnover but my encouragement would be you have to love who you are first, love what you do second, and put the two together and then you will have a powerful resource.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I don't have a degree but I have expertise. I thought about going back to school but my mind wouldn't allow retraining. God has put me in a place where it doesn't matter what the child looks like, I just have love for these children. Keeping up with children now 57 years old is living proof my ideas and values are treasured.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The nurturing part of helping develop children at a young age is most important. Even outside daycare, I have this nurturing type spirit that is contagious.
