Her Story

About Rekha

Rekha Poovathingal is a Senior Operations Lead at Cash App, where she oversees customer success initiatives across the full customer journey while managing the company's BPO vendor partnerships in the Philippines and India. With close to nine years in the fintech industry, she has built her career around people-centered leadership, blending vendor operations expertise with a deep commitment to improving the customer experience. Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Psychology earned in India, followed by a master's degree in Hospitality Administration from Les Roches in Switzerland.

Before entering fintech, Poovathingal spent several years in the hospitality sector, where she first built the people-management and service-oriented skills that would later define her career. She completed a management training program with the Hyatt Group in St. Louis and went on to spend roughly four to five years at the Four Seasons, working in both restaurant and banquet and event management. When Cash App opened an office in St. Louis, she moved into fintech operations, joining as a Team Lead and steadily advancing through group lead responsibilities to her current senior leadership position.

Among her most notable professional achievements is the successful launch of Cash App's messaging support channel along with the establishment of Tier 2 escalation teams, work that helped strengthen the company's vendor operations across Asia. Poovathingal draws inspiration from mentors Naomi Wheelis and Catherine Card, and she remains passionate about building scalable processes that improve efficiency and elevate the customer experience. She encourages those entering the industry to stay curious, learn from others' experiences, and lean on established leadership resources such as Radical Candor and Drive rather than starting from scratch.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Rekha

01What do you attribute your success to?

I credit my success to strong people-management skills paired with a genuine focus on customer service. The leadership and interpersonal abilities I built during my years in hospitality translated directly into my work in fintech, giving me a foundation that has carried through every role I've taken on.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is to read as much as you can about the field you're entering and to make time to meet people already working in it. I'd also recommend picking up leadership books like Radical Candor and Drive — learning from established success stories helps you grow without having to reinvent the wheel.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

People-centered leadership, continuous learning, and delivering excellent customer service are the values that matter most to me, both in my career and in how I approach my personal life.
