Her Story
About Rekha
Rekha Thirumlai serves as founder and CEO of Sing for Smiles, a 501c3 nonprofit she launched in 2024 while attending high school in Northern Virginia. As a rising senior, she created the organization as a youth-based initiative to provide high school students with meaningful community service opportunities by engaging residents at senior homes through music. Rekha is licensed in first aid and has completed economics courses. She measures success by personal impact, such as helping a non-verbal resident with Alzheimer's sing along to music for the first time in weeks. Rekha values helping those in need, tenacity, perseverance, and not taking opportunities for granted, and she plans to expand the nonprofit's chapter system across the country while pursuing undergraduate studies and a law degree focused on international humanitarian work.
