Ten minutes with Rema

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

My first real boss out of college, DB or Dennis Bassett, told me to invest in new clothes for national sales meetings, don't be the first or last at the bar, do your job and go home. My next boss Laura Ackerman taught me that relationships matter most and to keep a notebook with personal details about people I meet. Another boss taught me to ask for a seat at the table if I belong there. My dad was the most influential, telling me to talk to everybody from the CEO to the janitor, which helped me win President's Club by connecting with a janitor and surgical scheduler.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Relationships matter the most. Don't burn bridges. If you don't know the answer, say I don't know and get back to them. Every single job I've ever had is from a relationship prior to that, whether colleague or manager. Building those relationships has been the most important thing in my career.
