Her Story
About Renae
I've been with Siemens Digital Industries Software for 3 years, working in energy, chemicals, and infrastructure marketing. What led me to this current role is my 15 years in illumination engineering as a marketer for a company that developed software for lighting designers and architects. During the interview process with Siemens, that background was a highlight because it aligned well with the infrastructure side of the business. My main area of expertise is creating go-to-market plans and then materializing them, bringing messaging to the market that resonates. I work cross-functionally with the sales team, hearing from them what worked and what didn't work, tweaking the messaging so it hits the market correctly. I think my strong suit is building that network internally and being able to take the plan and bring it to life, because a lot of people can create the plan, but then it kind of sits on the shelf. In my current role, I work with a lot of different stakeholders like the industry strategy team and vertical teams who are subject matter experts working with sales. I work heavily on campaigns, figuring out what campaigns we're going to create, why we're going to create them, who we're going to target in the market, and what the market needs are today. There's a lot of pre-work involved with the planning, and then I create messaging for the sales team, enabling them with collateral like pitch decks on different topics for the digital thread, and training the sales team on what that message is.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Network with other women. Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. It is a heavily male-dominated field, I feel, and I think women are on the rise in energy as well. Energy's important for our lives every day. I mean, if you think about when the power goes out, then obviously we can't work, we don't have light, we don't have hot water, so it's essential to our daily lives. Just not to be afraid to get involved and to try to make that change.
