Her Story

About Renata

I am a site coordinator with Communities in Schools, where I assess needs to support children's academics, behavior, and overall well-being, including arranging counseling, mental health assistance, and ensuring access to food through a snack pantry. My journey began with a non-profit in my hometown hosting events like gas giveaways, which sparked my passion for service. Influenced by my mother who was a substitute teacher and bus driver, I entered education around 2005 and have worked from kindergarten through high school levels. I partner with organizations like the T.J. Stroud Foundation to provide prom experiences for students in need and work with Dr. Freddie Titus on community initiatives.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Make sure your heart is in it. Don't go into it worried about the financial end of it, it'll all feel worth it. If your heart is not in it, don't get into education, because these kids need more than just arithmetic and reading. They need love, they need a listening ear. They need to know that they can trust you, and vice versa. But they need you to be there 100%. Mentally, physically, and emotionally.
