About Renee
Renee Bonin is a senior outside sales representative at one of the top three electrical distributors in Houston, Texas. With more than 30 years in the field, she sells electrical products such as lighting gear, low voltage, medium voltage, and high voltage equipment across commercial, industrial, and residential sectors. Bonin started her career at CED after attending a small Christian high school, a junior college where she studied under Nancy Lipson, and the University of Houston. She previously owned RB Designs, a small design business serving multifamily contractors and residential clients, before returning to distribution sales. Her achievements include helping design and build over 20 residential homes, redoing the Victorian at Emerald by the Sea in Galveston, contributing to three UTMB facilities, multiple schools in the Klein and Fort Bend ISD areas, and the Ritz-Carlton in The Woodlands. Bonin is becoming certified in lighting controls with Lutron devices and belongs to three electrical industry organizations, the Galveston County SCCA, and the Northeast Area Ministry, where she has supported battered women. She encourages young women entering the male-dominated field of electrical distribution to persevere, noting that women excel through thoroughness and follow-through.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Electrical distribution is about 90% male and 10% female but changing. Do not be discouraged. Women can and will do it better than the men. We are thorough and follow through. Sales can make as much or more than medical reps. It involves friendship forming, like helping with takeoffs from blueprints.
