About Renee

Renee Chavez serves as a Medicare Executive based in Denver, Colorado, where she has worked in Medicare sales for a little over 8 years. With more than 20 years of experience in sales, she previously held roles in medical offices including hospitals in ICU, CCU, ER, and telemetry units as well as gastroenterologist offices. She also worked in accounting at a women's prison in Chino, California, and at San Bernardino County Jail before transitioning fully into sales. Chavez earned her GED and a Medical Office Management Certificate from Concord Career Institute. She is a former member of Toastmasters and volunteered with the police department in California. Chavez credits her success to her hard work, which began as a teenager in 1988 at Sears, a value instilled by her mother. She advises others to study hard and believe in what they are selling, noting it took her four attempts to pass her Colorado state exam.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Renee

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say, honestly, my hard work. Ever since I was a teenager, I started working at Sears years ago. This was 1988. I give a lot of that to my mom. She forced us to work hard.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

With what I do now in sales, I guess the biggest thing is you can't overcome sales unless you believe in what you're selling.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say, study hard. It took me 4 times to pass my state exam. It was a lot of hard work, a lot of dedication to studying.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Challenges, I would say it's competitors. The biggest thing is learning what you're selling. You learn every aspect of your job, and nobody could ever take that from you.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My personal life, I would say my values are staying true to myself, to my kids, my grandson. Keep your credit good. Keep your background good. Stay clean. Work hard, and you'll be able to do some fun things and have some nice things.
