Her Story
About Renee
Renee Jackson serves as CEO of That Theatre Place, an online cultural arts magazine focused on Black arts past, present, and future, and as Director of Renaissance Arts, an organization she established in 1987. Her professional journey in the arts began in 1986 at Karamu House Theater in Cleveland, Ohio, where she performed in The River Niger. Over more than four decades, she has written and produced plays, including the recent worldwide premiere of Bone Pick, which she wrote 20 years ago. Jackson also maintains a passion for poetry that dates back to age 12 and has worked in schools for 40 years mentoring youth. In 2024, she returned to college and completed a degree in journalism from Full Sail University, using an assignment to launch and later revamp her magazine platform. She is currently developing projects such as Five Painted Faces, profiling young female artists in Cleveland, and aspires to open a multi-purpose facility to support both emerging and seasoned artists in the community.
