Ten minutes with Renee
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success comes from persistence and tenacity along with emotional intelligence and empathy for clients. I focus on problem solving across a wide range of client situations from those barely making ends meet to millionaires planning estate taxes. Adaptability is huge because things are always changing in this industry.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice is persistency. Sometimes things don't work or we fail; This is part of the process! We easily get hammered down and focus on the negative or give up. Keep going, keep being persistent by doing the right things. You might have a bad day, bad week, or bad month, but continue working, and continue helping people. It will pay off!
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
It's definitely not as intimidating as it seems, being prominently a male industry. There's a ton of work related to testing, learning, compliance, etc, but at the end of the day take it one step at a time.
You can create flexibility and security for yourself and your family. The amount of knowledge you gain and can share with others is empowering! Stay genuine, don't chase the dollar. The dollar will come if you continue to do the right things!
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Family comes first. I try not to work on Fridays and spend time with the kids.
Having the ability to be versatile with callbacks and meetings in the early morning, late afternoons and evenings allows me to maintain great work-life balance and provide clients meeting times they don’t generally get at a conventional 9-5. Clients respect your time when you set expectations around what's important to you and them.
