Her Interview

Ten minutes with Renee

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my 31-year professional journey, including 20 years of service in the United States Air Force and my current role at Western & Southern Financial Group, where I specialize in robotics process automation. I am passionate about technology, innovation, and creating solutions, with one of my proudest achievements being the development of a data ingestion pipeline system from the ground up at S&P Global. My success is also driven by my education, including a Computer Science degree from Michigan State University, a Master’s in Management Information Systems, product management certification from eCornell University, and my leadership experience as the first District Director for Toastmasters District 215.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received came from the mentors who guided me throughout my journey. My father inspired me to join the military, serve my country, and pursue an education that prepared me for success. I am also grateful for mentors like Tracy Baker and Amber Burk, who have supported my growth and reinforced the value of learning, relationships, and embracing new opportunities.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women entering my industry to never be afraid to pursue success and take up space in any field, including male-dominated industries like technology and the military. Believe in your abilities, embrace challenges, and know that your contributions and leadership matter.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Being in my current role for six months, I see both challenges and opportunities in adapting to a new environment, building strong relationships, and continuing to learn the organization’s processes. The biggest opportunity is leveraging technology, automation, and innovation to create meaningful improvements while continuing to grow as a leader in my field.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are hard work, service, and making a positive difference in the lives of others. Through my involvement with Toastmasters International and the Veterans Military Network, I strive to support, mentor, and provide resources that help others grow and successfully transition into new opportunities.
