About Renee
Renee Nieuwoudt is the owner of CareTex Custom Homes, a custom home builder based in Spring, Texas, with more than 25 years of experience in residential construction. Since joining the company full-time in 2000, she has helped build more than 300 custom homes, earning a reputation for quality craftsmanship, personalized service, and lasting client relationships. As a respected leader in the industry, Renee is committed to creating homes that reflect each family's unique vision while delivering an exceptional building experience.
Renee began her career in medical supply customer service and sales before joining the business founded by her late husband. For more than a decade, she managed the company's operations while he oversaw construction. Following his passing in 2012, Renee assumed leadership of the business, demonstrating resilience and determination as she guided the company through continued growth. In 2019, she formed a partnership with Nick Drevencar, combining their expertise to expand CareTex Custom Homes while maintaining its commitment to quality, integrity, and customer satisfaction.
Today, Renee oversees all business operations, including client relations, project planning, proposals, budgeting, subcontractor coordination, and design selections. She attributes her success to the work ethic and values instilled by her late husband and her parents, emphasizing honesty, trust, and exceptional customer service in every project. As a successful woman in the construction industry, Renee is passionate about building not only custom homes but also lasting relationships and a legacy of excellence within the communities she serves.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to hard work and dedication. There are so many times when I could just go in there and watch TV and forget about work, but I keep going. My late husband's work ethic and my parents' work ethic really instilled that in me, and we lead by example for our kids.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is that you don't build success alone. I've been fortunate to have incredible mentors, partners, and family members who have guided and supported me through both challenges and opportunities. Their encouragement has taught me the importance of surrounding yourself with people you trust, staying focused during difficult times, and leading with resilience, integrity, and gratitude.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Learn to love what you do. You've got to have fun and really enjoy what you do more than anything. Customer service always came first. Making sure everyone is happy around you, not just yourself.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in the construction industry today is adapting to changing market conditions, rising material costs, and evolving client expectations. I see those challenges as opportunities to innovate, strengthen relationships, and continue improving how we serve our clients. For me, building custom homes is about more than construction—it's about creating spaces where families build their lives, and I'm excited to continue growing CareTex Custom Homes while delivering exceptional quality and service.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty. A lot of our customers have said over the years that they can trust us, and that stems from honesty and being an open book.
