Her Story

About Rev. Areda

Areda K. Hicks is an organizational growth and development strategist with more than a decade of experience helping businesses and organizations build the structures needed to be effective and thrive. As founder of The Learning & Development Center, LLC, she works closely with entrepreneurs and faith-based leaders to strengthen the systems behind their growth, believing that no organization can expand beyond the health of its leadership or the strength of its internal framework. Her approach blends the academic rigor of her doctoral studies in Industrial and Organizational Psychology with hands-on tools such as structural audits, behavioral assessments, and customized training programs, all aimed at replacing scattered busy work with intentional, lasting impact. Rev. Hicks's professional path reflects a wide range of leadership experience across industries. Before formalizing her consulting practice, she built and led Bind & Loose Group, LLC, a multi-venture enterprise encompassing publishing, media, retail, and educational technology, where she guided a dramatic rise in annual profits while developing a learning platform to teach entrepreneurship and financial literacy to adult learners. She has also served in public-facing roles such as Community Navigator for Gwinnett County Government, connecting residents with critical resources during moments of crisis, and as a Telecommunications Operator for the Henry County Sheriff's Office, managing sensitive criminal justice data with precision and discretion. This diversity of experience has given her a broad, practical understanding of how different organizations and systems function, informing the customized strategies she now offers her consulting clients. Faith remains the foundation of both Rev. Hicks's professional philosophy and her personal life, shaping her belief that true success comes from following divine guidance rather than chasing direction on her own terms. Outside of her consulting work, she channels this same commitment into her community, volunteering her organizational expertise to support fellow business leaders and contributing to her church's ministry efforts, including coordinating back-to-school drives and leading a scholarship academy that has helped 15 graduating seniors pursue higher education. Guided by values of faith, service, effectiveness, and family, Rev. Hicks continues to encourage others—particularly young women entering her field—to trust their own instincts and vision rather than allowing outside expectations to define their path.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Rev. Areda

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute every success I have to God. It's about being able to follow the One who knows the path, knows the next step, and knows the end goal. Without God, there is no business, no direction, and no vision for me. It is about our active partnership, Him leading and me following and doing the part He has empowered me to do.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've received is do it scared. I used to wait until I could get every detail optimal but now I do it scared. Everything doesn't have to be perfect because things are always changing. I have also learned to trust my instincts and the vision I carry, rather than allowing others to pressure me into being what they understand or can categorize. I serve a multifaceted God who has given me a multifaceted purpose, so I may not fit the box some have ready for me. And that's ok. All I have to do is follow behind God.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell young women entering this industry to honor the expert inside of them. Too often women are silenced in any field they step into, negating the wisdom, insight and knowledge they carry in the door with them. Don't let others force them into fitting their mold, either. Trust your instincts, hold onto your vision, and continue following your spiritual guidance even when the people around you don't understand your journey. Get comfortable being the expert on You and get comfortable holding your own space.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges I see is organizations failing to honor their greatest asset, their employees. The second biggest challenge is organizations falling into mission drift and getting consumed by busy work instead of building structured, effective systems. The opportunity, on the other hand, lies in helping organizations and leaders build the systems and structures needed for greater effectiveness and lasting community impact — what I call "impactful longevity."

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In work environments, the values that matter most are integrity, authenticity, respectfulness, open communication, and willingness to grow and learn. In my personal life, the values that matter most to me are my faith, service to my community, being true to the call on my life, my family, and maintaining healthy personal boundaries.
