About Rhonda

Dr. Rhonda Dahl Buchanan is a distinguished professor emerita, literary translator, and scholar with over three decades of experience in Spanish language and Latin American literature at the University of Louisville, where she served as Professor of Spanish and Director of the Latin American and Latino Studies Program. She has received numerous prestigious awards, including the UofL Distinguished Teaching Professor Award, the Trustees Award, the Distinguished Service to the Community Award, the NACADA National Academic Advising Award, and the UofL Distinguished Professor Award for Outstanding Scholarship, Research, and Creative Activity. She is the author of numerous articles and editor of a book of critical essays on Ana María Shua. As a literary translator, she has translated works by Perla Suez, Alberto Ruy-Sánchez, and Mempo Giardinelli, and has received a 2006 NEA Literature Fellowship for her translation of Alberto Ruy-Sánchez's The Secret Gardens of Mogador. Her translations have been published by White Pine Press, University of New Mexico Press, and Texas Tech University Press. She holds a PhD and MA in Spanish from the University of Colorado Boulder. She is recognized as a passionate, dedicated, and internationally respected scholar and translator who has made significant contributions to the field of Latin American literature and translation.
