About Rhonda
Rhonda Rudd is a Long Term Care Investigator with the Office of Inspector General in Louisville, Kentucky. In this role, she conducts off-site preparation and reviews involving long-term care and healthcare facilities, including nursing homes, behavioral health organizations, and adult daycares. Her responsibilities include reviewing resident medical issues and complaints involving matters such as falls or abuse, as well as assessing beneficiary notifications, infection control, medication administration, quality measures, resident council meetings, staffing, and other aspects of facility operations. Her work brings together her background in healthcare, administration, compliance, investigation, and communication. Prior to her current role, Rhonda spent approximately 10 years in healthcare with Humana, progressing through positions including Agent Support Specialist, Billing and Enrollment Specialist, On Demand Senior Produce, Loss of Entitlement/Critical Errors, and Grievance & Appeals Representative. Her healthcare experience included supporting Medicare and prescription drug plans, working with TRICARE enrollment for active-duty service members and their families, addressing enrollment and billing issues, processing CMS-related transactions, and handling appeals and entitlement matters. Earlier in her career, she worked as an HR Generalist-Administrator at Ford Motor Company, where she supported recruiting and staffing activities, maintained production and quality databases, contributed to reporting processes, and assisted with factory information systems. She also worked in human resources and recruitment before transitioning fully into healthcare. Rhonda's earlier career was in journalism, where she spent approximately 16 years as a feature news writer at The Detroit News, beginning in May 1987. During that time, she covered religion, health, fine and performing art. She penned 3,000 stories, a lifetime achievement. She holds a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Leadership from Sullivan University, a Bachelor of Science in Communications-Journalism from Grand Valley State University and she completed Post Bachelor Professional Paralegal studies at Oakland Community College. Her career advice to the next generation emphasizes clarity, preparation, and alignment: she encourages young women to determine what they truly want to pursue, study their chosen profession, understand its requirements, and deliberately connect their existing skills and experience to their career goals.

Don't discount of the value and expertise your bring to the table
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering my industry is to first be certain that this is the career or discipline they truly want to pursue. Be very clear about what you want to accomplish and take the time to study the profession and understand what the role requires. Before an interview, I create a roadmap that outlines what I have accomplished, what I hope to achieve in the new role, and what I can bring to the organization. I encourage others to take the same intentional approach. Understand the profession you are pursuing and make sure your knowledge, skills, abilities, and over align with the direction you want your career to take.

Staying relevant and diligent in ensuring the elderly in Long Term Care receive quality care and are being treated with dignity
