Ten minutes with Rica
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute much of my success to my mom. I originally started college as a chemistry major, but she encouraged me to take an accounting class during my sophomore year. That one decision changed the direction of my career and helped me discover a profession that truly fit me. Without her support and encouragement, I likely wouldn't have pursued accounting or be where I am today as a Senior Tax Associate at Andersen.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I would say when I started my career here in Anderson, we get, like, assigned a mentor I feel like one of the advice that she gave me while… when I was starting out is that, everyones learning, so just go at your own pace, and dont compare yourself to oth
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Dont let anyone stop you As I know, its like a male… its a pretty much male-dominated field, and so I know from my experience in college, a lot of my classes were heavily, like a male-dominated classes, I would say, and so I know it could be a little disc
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
That kind of goes alongside with the busy season. Biggest challenge is that I dont get to spend as much time as I would like. Its not With my family and friends, its during busy season, its not like a regular 9-5 where you could just stop at 5, 5.30, it's
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I guess, values for work is that to always provide the best client service you could do to the best of your ability Just being like, giving work with integrity, and trying your best to provide the best product for your client and the helping other people, even if you're at the same level or above you, if they need help, to always just reach out and see how you could make their work a little bit better with my personal life, I do like to help other people as well. It could be as little as, like, helping them get to the airport if they need a ride Just… I like helping other people and making… and seeing and making a difference in their life It's very simple, but One of the things I really value, and spending time with my family whenever I'm not working, because I know our busy season could get hard, where I don't really get to see my family, like, 3 months… 6 months a year, because we have, like, busy season in the beginning of the year, and fall busy season And so, like, during our downtime, like, right around now would be, the time I would bake off and spend time with my family as much as I can, and as well as my friends.
