About Rita
Rita B. Hudson is an accomplished educator, certified wellness professional, and fitness instructor with more than two decades of experience empowering individuals through education, movement, and holistic health. Based in the Atlanta metropolitan area, she serves as a STEM teacher at Woodland Elementary Charter School while also working as a yoga and Pilates instructor at the Robert D. Fowler Family YMCA in Peachtree Corners, Georgia, where she has taught since the facility opened in 2002. Over the years, she has expanded her instruction to include chair yoga, water aerobics, active older adult strength and cardio classes, dance fitness, and support for the YMCA's organic gardening initiatives. In addition, she is a certified Pelvic Floor Trainer and Fascia and Lymphatic Release Specialist through Buff Muff and DailyOM, reflecting her commitment to evidence-based wellness practices that promote lifelong health.
Hudson's professional journey began in education, where she built a distinguished career as a teacher, including many years with Fulton County Schools before retiring from the district. She continues to educate students as a STEM teacher and has also led Chandler Academy, providing personalized educational opportunities for children and families. She earned an associate degree from DeKalb College before completing her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education at Oglethorpe University and has continued to pursue advanced professional development, including certification in Chair Yoga through Breath for Change. Her transition into the fitness industry was inspired by a personal experience: following a serious car accident, she discovered the therapeutic benefits of water aerobics and Pilates in managing chronic pain, motivating her to become certified and dedicate her career to helping others improve their health and mobility.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Hudson is deeply committed to serving her community through volunteer work with Hope House for survivors of domestic abuse and Furkids, a no-kill animal shelter. She believes that true success is rooted in faith, compassion, and a genuine desire to serve others. Guided by these values, she has built a career that seamlessly blends education, wellness, and community service, inspiring students, fitness participants, and clients to lead healthier, more confident, and more fulfilling lives.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Rita
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success entirely to God and to trusting His plan for my life. Early in my career, I realized that when my focus was on personal success, networking, or self-promotion, the results were limited. However, when I shifted my focus to serving others with genuine passion and purpose, opportunities began to unfold naturally. I believe that when you truly love what you do and are committed to making a positive impact, success follows as a byproduct of that dedication. My faith has taught me to trust the process, remain authentic, and allow my work to reflect my values, knowing that everything else will fall into place in God's timing.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women entering this field to build a strong community of supportive women who will encourage, inspire, and uplift you throughout your career. Having mentors and peers who believe in your potential can make all the difference during challenging times. There will inevitably be moments when progress feels slow or obstacles seem overwhelming, but I have learned the importance of trusting God through those seasons. Stay committed to your purpose, continue doing your best, and have faith that He will open the right doors and guide you to where you are meant to be in His perfect timing.
