Her Story

About Rochelle

I have a bachelor's degree in computer science from University of Maryland. I started in software because I wanted something creative yet structured. I have worked remotely for many years, traveling to customer events. My early mentors were two women leaders who emphasized being open to ideas and valuing everyone's input.

Ten minutes with Rochelle

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think the idea of being open, always learning, always being curious. You have to ask questions to learn, and when you stop asking questions, you stop learning.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Be open to other ideas. Very early in my career, my first job out of college, the leaders on my team were two women who juggled careers and family and building teams, and their advice was to be open because you don't always have all of the ideas but everyone's opinion counts.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't be afraid of AI, embrace it. Think about how you can work together with AI, not against it. You still need both young programmers and AI.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

There aren't a lot of women in software and STEM careers. I tend to be one of eight or one of ten in a room even today. Overcoming that and not being intimidated by it has been a challenge, but early mentors helped inspire me.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Do the right thing.
