What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my customer experience. I believe in providing the very best of the best of customer service - that's pretty much my brand. Building that rapport and trust with our customers and the community has been key. I'm a source of information for them, and they entrust me to help meet their financial goals and keep them educated on anything that survives, like special products and different things like that. So just overall that building that rapport with business owners and consumers as well has been kind of my branding method. I've won several awards throughout my career for sales and service leadership, President's Cup, and different things like that.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I probably have gotten is to continue to be affectionate and compassionate towards our people. We've seen people for who they are, and don't ever look at someone when they come in and make assumptions. Everybody's the same.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Stay committed, stay loyal. You know, go through your bumps and your bruises. Accept every challenge, be adaptable, and banking will take good care of you if you take good care of it.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I think one of the greatest challenges is that this field is male-dominated. And being a female and being African American, you just have to have a different type of mindset and attitude. I don't get caught up in racial divide and different things like that. I'm highly educated, and I'm able to do the work, so I let my work speak for itself. I just stay the course, and I don't allow the ignorance of other people to determine my career path or my journey. As far as opportunities, the number of people that I meet is incredible. I can go to any restaurant I want to go to because when you treat people well, people treat you well. I could be sitting at my desk, don't have lunch, and next thing you know, I look around, and they brought me lunch. Customers are very engaged and in tune to the way that I run my branch.
