Her Story

About Rochelle

Rochelle Lee serves as Senior Purchase Engineer 2 at ASM, focusing on selling tools and processes to semiconductor clients such as TSMC, Intel, and Micron while optimizing daily operations to meet specifications. She earned her Bachelor's degree in physics with a double major in medical physics and electronics before spending two years teaching high school physics. She then pursued her Master's and PhD in Applied Physics in South Korea, where she researched semiconductor nanowires for applications like solar cells and photodiodes using methods such as MOCVD and molecular beam epitaxy. Her transition to ALD work involves thinner layers compared to her prior research on thicker materials up to 8 microns. Lee values personal development, drawing from her background to emphasize continuous self-improvement, and she advises others not to remain stagnant but to pursue change and additional training when feeling stuck. She is proud of solving customer challenges in her field and contributing to larger technological outcomes, such as materials used in products like the Apple iPhone.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't stay stagnant. If you feel like you're stuck, don't just stay stuck. Always try to see what can I do next, maybe take a course to improve my ability. Don't be afraid of change.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't be afraid and don't doubt yourself. As a woman in a field dominated by men, speak up, speak your mind, have confidence in yourself. We all fundamentally have the same mind. It just depends on how we internalize things, and we have to project ourselves confidently so people will see us as that.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Personal development. Always trying to improve yourself. I come from a poor background with a large family, and from a young age I always believe it's all about personal development.
