About Rochelle

Rochelle Yancey serves as Site Director for Head Start in Baltimore County, Maryland. She manages two sites, one serving infants and the other preschool classrooms, while supervising about 30 associates. Her day-to-day responsibilities include ensuring proper ratios, handling end-of-month paperwork such as meal data, visiting classrooms to interact with children and teachers, and fostering a positive work culture through morning messages. With more than 40 years in early childhood development, Yancey returned to Head Start after retiring from George Washington University, where she spent 11 years as senior site director of the Jumpstart program. There she recruited and trained college students, overseeing 90 students and two associate directors. She finds the work rewarding because it allows her to support both children and families. Yancey received an award from the mayor in Washington, DC, for community service, which included organizing volunteer events and partnerships. She plans to retire in three years and return to her hometown of Pittsburgh to volunteer and share her passion for storytelling by reading classic books to children.
