Her Story
About Rohini
Rohini Perera is the Director of Global Payments and Risk Management at Herbalife, where she leads payment strategy and operations across 95 markets. Her portfolio covers credit cards and local wallets, commission and royalty payments to distributors, credit card fraud management, and the company's global insurance program, including local coverage in countries such as China and India. She works closely with the Cybersecurity, Privacy, Legal, and Governance teams to assess emerging risks and strengthen controls, while applying advanced analytics and AI-powered tools to balance fraud prevention with a positive customer experience.
Before joining Herbalife, Perera spent nearly two decades in the cruise industry, starting as a staff accountant at Princess Cruises in California and moving into treasury roughly two years later. She advanced from Senior Treasury Analyst to Treasury Manager, then to Head of Treasury for Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, and Seabourn Cruises. Her achievements include redesigning the cash forecasting process, moving credit card acquiring from Fiserv to WorldPay for a 16-ship fleet, and building a SharePoint site that cut the ship cash order process from eight days to two. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she and her team sustained critical payment operations and processed thousands of refunds and payments for employees and crew members worldwide.
Originally from Sri Lanka, Perera holds an MBA from Cleveland State University and a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of Western Australia. She has supported relief efforts after the 2004 tsunami, helping fishermen replace their boats and supplying books and shoes to rural schools, and has volunteered in Los Angeles distributing food to those in need. She encourages women entering finance to build strong networks, seek mentors, and stay open to new paths. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, audiobooks, hiking, and time by the ocean.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Rohini
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to adaptability, continuous learning, strong relationships, and a willingness to take on new challenges. I have never hesitated to step outside my comfort zone, and pursuing opportunities that stretched me has allowed me to keep growing professionally.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Mentorship and professional relationships have shaped my career from the start. I learned the value of building a strong network, learning from experienced colleagues, and staying open to guidance and new opportunities as my career evolved.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Know your options within the finance field. Treasury is very different from accounting and is a niche area, so it is important to choose work you genuinely enjoy. I encourage young women to build relationships, network, find strong mentors, and stay open to different career paths. No one should feel confined to the area where they started. My own move from accounting into treasury opened the door to a much broader career in global payments and risk.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Global financial operations are growing more complex as organizations manage payments across many countries, currencies, regulatory environments, and technologies. Fraud prevention and payment security remain top priorities. At the same time, advances in technology present opportunities to make global payment systems more efficient, secure, and responsive.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, responsibility, resilience, compassion, and service to others guide me. Whether I am managing complex financial operations or helping communities recover from hardship, I believe in being dependable and using my knowledge and resources to make a meaningful difference.
