Her Story

About RoMontee

My journey in healthcare began 38 years ago, inspired by caring for my great-grandmother when I was just 8 or 9 years old. I was there when she had her first heart attack, running across the street to get neighbors, and I continued caring for her through subsequent heart attacks. That experience made healthcare something I was comfortable with, so I went to school for medical assistance and phlebotomy, working in those areas for about 12 years. I then earned my first associate's degree, which helped me get into the ultrasound program where I learned to diagnose tissues in the kidneys, spleen, gallbladder, and other organs in radiology. I became a manager for a traveling company throughout the United States, assisting in surgery and performing procedures. I've done everything from assisting in biopsies for prostate cancer and breast cancer to working in home health as a manager. In 2024, I earned my master's degree in healthcare administration, and just last month in 2025, I completed my second master's in biblical theology and religious studies. I'm currently pursuing my doctorate in biblical psychology, which I expect to complete in 2027, and I'm excited to become a licensed psychologist from a biblical perspective. For the past four years, I've served as director and manager of the Senior Companion Program in Baton Rouge, where I oversee 32 staff members. Our program, which has been around for 38 years, allows seniors to go into the community and serve other seniors to keep them out of nursing homes by helping with medicine, doctor visits, and exercise. Beyond my healthcare work, I've been serving my community as a leader for 18 years. I founded Swimming to Save Tiara and Crowns Foundation, a legal nonprofit named in honor of my daughter who passed away from accidental drowning. Through this foundation, we supply kids with free swim lessons, nutrition education, and free literacy programs. I'm also a certified life coach and motivational speaker, regularly speaking at events about healthy aging and community wellness.
