Ronnetta Sullivan
With over six and a half years dedicated to senior healthcare in the Midwest, I serve as a Regional Business Office Consultant for Tutera Senior Living & Health Care, a leading family-owned organization providing compassionate skilled nursing, assisted living, memory care, and rehabilitation services across multiple states.
Promoted to this role in February 2026, I support a region of facilities by ensuring seamless financial operations, clean billing practices, strong patient advocacy, training and development. My days are dynamic and rewarding. I'm an active member of Tutera's YOUNITE Engagement committee at the corporate level, where we organize community events, activities, and give-back initiatives to enrich the lives of seniors we serve.
My journey into healthcare was drawn by a deep calling to serve others meaningfully. I quickly discovered my strongest connection was with the elderly population—providing not just resources and nursing care, but genuine support, dignity, and peace of mind for residents and their loved ones.
Passionate about integrity, empathy, and accessible care, I continue to champion patient-centered solutions that align with Tutera's commitment to doing the right thing for those whose lives we touch.

What do you attribute your success to?
First, there's this ache inside me to help people who feel scared and overwhelmed, especially older folks and their families. I didn't plan it, but when I left the apartment world years ago, I was chasing something that felt real—something that let me show up for people in their hardest moments. That pull never went away. It's why I light up when I finally get a Medicaid approval through after weeks of fighting, or when I talk a family off the ledge because their loved one can stay in skilled nursing a little longer. Those small wins feel huge to me. They remind me I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be.
Second, I've had to learn sometimes the hard way—to trust myself. There were days I doubted whether I was smart enough, experienced enough, tough enough for this field. But I kept showing up anyway. I read, I asked questions, I made mistakes and fixed them, and I gave myself grace when things didn't go perfectly. Believing in me, investing in me, fighting for me the way I fight for residents… that quiet self-trust is what carried me. I didn't wait for someone else to hand it to me—I grew into it and honestly, the people we serve keep me grounded. Every time I sit with a family who's exhausted and scared or see a resident's face relax because they know the bill is going to be covered, it resets me. It reminds me this isn't just about clean billing or hitting metric, it's about real people, real dignity, real relief. That connection is what keeps me steady through the denials, the backlogs, the endless paperwork.
If I had to boil it down to what got me here: it's love for the work, trust in myself even when I wasn't sure, and refusing to let the system win over the people who need us. That's my success. It's personal, it's quiet, and it's mine.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
"Trust yourself enough to fight for what you want but give yourself grace when the path isn't straight."
I was doubting whether I could really make the leap from the apartment industry to something as meaningful (and complicated) as serving seniors in long-term care. I worried I didn't have the "right" background or enough experience. She told me: Believe in your gut feeling about where you're meant to be, invest in learning and growing without beating yourself up over setbacks, and advocate for yourself the same way you'd advocate for a resident or family who's struggling.
That advice changed everything. It gave me permission to take risks and saying yes to opportunities that scared me a little. It reminded me not to be too hard on myself during the inevitable rough patches and to keep showing up with dedication and kindness toward my own journey.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Believe in yourself. Trust yourself. And invest in yourself.
True career fulfillment doesn't come from waiting for opportunities to appear; it requires intentional dedication to your own growth. Invest time in building your skills, knowledge, and confidence. Seek out learning opportunities, take on new challenges, and advocate for the resources you need to thrive.
At the same time, be kind to yourself along the way. Don't be overly hard on yourself when things feel tough—progress rarely follows a straight line. Instead, fight for yourself with the same compassion and determination you show for the residents and families we serve every day.
When you embrace self-belief, self-trust, and consistent self-investment, you create the foundation to bloom and blossom exactly as you're meant to—reaching your full potential, advancing in meaningful ways, and finding deeper joy in the impactful work you do.
In our field at Tutera, where we live the YOUNITE philosophy of understanding and honoring each individual's uniqueness (including our own), this mindset isn't just personal advice—it's a pathway to greater purpose, resilience, and success for ourselves and those whose lives we touch.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Medicaid delayed approvals for long-term care (LTC) applications—such as those for skilled nursing facilities or other nursing home-level care—are a common frustration in your work advocating for patients in Kansas and Missouri. Federal rules require states to process standard Medicaid applications within 45 days (or up to 90 days if a disability determination is needed), but real-world timelines often stretch longer due to backlogs, documentation issues, and policy shifts. This creates a significant ripple effect on both facility revenue and patient/resident benefits.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Compassion and empathy guide everything I do. I find my deepest fulfillment in advocating for seniors and their families—easing the overwhelming burdens of complex processes like Medicaid eligibility, securing resources for dignified long-term care, and "closing the gaps" so they can focus on what matters most. Relieving that stress and ensuring access to the right support is where my heart lies.
Advocacy and integrity are non-negotiable for me. Whether negotiating Medicare/Medicare Advantage coverage, pursuing appeals for extended skilled nursing stays, maintaining clean regional billing across Kansas and Missouri, or troubleshooting case-by-case challenges, I fight to do the right thing—every time—for the residents and families we serve.
Service to others has defined my journey. From transitioning out of the apartment industry years ago to roles in memory care, skilled nursing business offices, and now regional consulting at Tutera Senior Living & Health Care, I've been drawn to meaningful ways to serve the elderly population with resources, nursing care, and genuine support.
Self-belief, self-trust, and personal growth fuel my progress. In just six and a half years, believing in myself, investing in my development, staying dedicated without being too hard on myself, and fighting for my own path have allowed me to grow the way I wanted. I encourage others to embrace the same: trust yourself, invest in yourself, and grow with kindness and determination.
Dignity, individuality, and positivity complete the picture. I honor each person's unique story—just as Tutera's YOUNITE philosophy inspires us to get to know residents personally, prioritize their preferences, and guide actions with respect, hospitality, and a "can-do" attitude. Through my work on the YOUNITE committee and community give-back events, I help create environments where seniors feel valued, connected, and celebrated.
These values compassionate advocacy, authentic service, personal empowerment, and integrity in action—are what drive me every day at Tutera. They make the challenges of revenue cycle management and patient support worthwhile, because at the end of the day, it's about making a real, positive difference in lives that matter.
