Her Story

About Roopa

Roopa Sunku serves as VP of Release and Program Management at Oracle, a role she has held after nearly 30 years in technology with the company since 1995. She began in support, advanced to the Center of Expertise, and now leads her team in delivering features and functionality for human resource modules to customers. Roopa completed her graduation in psychology, English, and journalism in India before entering the field, drawing on her customer-focused skills from prior work at TWA. She attributes her success to the stability Oracle provided amid her husband's career moves, the company's broad technologies spanning database, middleware, and applications that enabled continuous learning in areas like SaaS, workflows, and AI, the flexibility to raise a family, and enduring relationships with colleagues that formed a supportive circle. Roopa is a member of the Employee Resource Group and volunteers with the Touch a Life Foundation, conducting mentor circles and podcasts on mentoring. She advises young women entering tech that imposter syndrome is natural in new roles until one integrates into the ecosystem, encouraging them to dream big while maintaining positive momentum.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Roopa

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my husband's career moves that required me to seek stability at Oracle, the company's vast range of technologies from database to middleware to applications that provided continuous learning, the flexibility to raise a family while advancing, my passion for learning new facets like SaaS, workflows, AI, and the long-term relationships with colleagues that turned work into a supportive family circle.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

It is very natural to go through imposter syndrome when stepping into any new organization, role or position until you understand and match yourself into the ecosystem around you. Don't fear, dream big, dream large, and you can achieve it as long as you're keeping your momentum positive and progressive.
