Her Interview
Ten minutes with Rosa
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to resilience, purpose, and a commitment to serving others. Throughout my life, I have faced challenges that tested my strength, including my cancer journey, career transitions, and personal obstacles. Rather than allowing adversity to define me, I chose to learn from it and use it as motivation for growth. I have been willing to step outside of my comfort zone, embrace new opportunities, and continue learning. Whether earning new credentials, taking on leadership roles, volunteering in my community, or changing careers to align with my values, I have remained focused on growth and making a meaningful impact.
I also attribute my success to the people who have supported me along the way. Family, friends, mentors, colleagues, and my community have encouraged me, challenged me, and helped me become the person I am today.
Most importantly, I have learned to lead with authenticity and purpose. Success, to me, is not measured by titles or achievements alone, but by the positive difference I make in the lives of others and the ability to stay true to my values while doing so.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice is to focus on impact and not just opportunity. Throughout my career, I have learned that the most meaningful opportunities are not always the ones that offer the highest title, recognition, or financial reward. The opportunities that have brought me the greatest fulfillment are those that allow me to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Whether supporting youth and families, advocating for survivors, mentoring others, leading community initiatives, or volunteering for causes I care about, I have found that true success comes from creating impact. When evaluating new opportunities, I ask myself: Will this allow me to serve others, contribute to my community, and align with my values?
By focusing on impact rather than opportunity alone, I have been able to build a career and a life that are rooted in purpose, compassion, authenticity, and service. My advice to others is to pursue work that not only advances their goals but also reflects who they are and the difference they hope to make in the world.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is meeting the growing mental health and support needs of children and families while resources and staffing remain limited. At the same time, I see tremendous opportunity in building stronger community partnerships and expanding trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches. Throughout my work as a case manager, therapeutic mentor, and advocate, I've seen how resilience, supportive relationships, and early intervention can change lives. I believe the future of our field lies in empowering individuals, strengthening communities, and ensuring people have access to the support they need to thrive.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My values are rooted in living with purpose, serving others with compassion, building strong communities, embracing life's moments, and using adversity as a source of strength and growth.
Resilience and perseverance are at the core of who I am. My cancer journey shaped these values profoundly. Rather than allowing cancer to define me, it revealed a strength I never knew I possessed. I continue to speak openly about survivorship, the long-term side effects of treatment, and the lessons I have learned, using my experience to encourage, support, and inspire others facing their own challenges.
Community and Connection are important to me. I believe people thrive when they support one another. Whether through fundraising, leadership committees, mentoring youth, volunteer work, or community organizations, I am committed to fostering meaningful connections and creating spaces where individuals feel valued, supported, and empowered.
I am committed to continuous growth and learning. Throughout my life, I have embraced new opportunities, changed careers, earned new credentials, participated in leadership programs, and served on boards and committees. I value personal development and strive to help others discover their own strengths, talents, and potential.
Being present and appreciating life. My cancer experience taught me the importance of slowing down and truly appreciating the present moment. I am intentional about not letting responsibilities overshadow life's joys. Through photography, travel, and meaningful experiences with loved ones, I seek to create memories, celebrate everyday moments, and live fully.
Advocacy and Empowerment are also important to me. I am passionate about helping others find their voice and recognize their worth. Whether mentoring youth, supporting survivors, advocating for foster children, or serving my community, I believe every person deserves to be heard, respected, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Family and relationships are among the most important aspects of my life. They provide meaning, motivation, strength, and perspective. I value deep connections and strive to invest my time and energy in the people who matter most.
Authenticity and Purpose are what make me who I am. A recurring theme throughout my life has been choosing paths that align with my values rather than what is simply comfortable or expected. I am driven by purpose and strive to ensure that my work, volunteer service, leadership, and personal life reflect who I truly am. I believe that living authentically allows me to make a greater impact and lead a more meaningful life.
My Personal Mission is to live with purpose, serve others with compassion, build strong communities, embrace life's moments, and transform adversity into strength, growth, and opportunities to uplift others.
