Her Story
About Rosalyn
I've been in the restoration and abatement industry for 4 years, and I currently serve as the office manager for Alamo One Environmental, which I joined in November. My general manager, who I had worked with at a previous restoration company, recruited me to join him at Alamo One. It's been a dream come true. One of my proudest achievements has been mastering HubSpot since January - a program I had never heard of before. The VP made it my baby . I'm a "go-getter" who believes in getting things done, and I plan on retiring from this company. At a recent Houston Apartment Association Expo, I networked with many people from different companies. I love what I do and bring that passion to work every day.

Ten minutes with Rosalyn
01What do you attribute your success to?
I said before “I am a GO-Getter”, I don't take no for an answer. I know what I'm bringing to the table. I just believe in getting things done. Yes, it may take a minute to get it done, but I will execute my plan regardless. I visualize it, put it on paper, and make it happen. The only thing you can do is tell me no, but you will have to give me a reason why you're telling me no. If that reason is not working for me, then I'm going to figure out why it's not working for me, and we will go back so you understand why we need to be able to do this.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
When I was in the 8th grade, I had an English teacher who pulled me aside and told me something that has stayed with me my entire life. She noticed that I had a hard time with some girls in my grade. She said the girls in school probably didn't like me because of the way I carried myself - like a dignified young woman. She told me, 'Whatever it is you decide to do in life, remember this, as pretty as you are, your looks can only get you so far, but your brain will carry you very far for the rest of your life.' She said “You do not need an entourage of people to make me feel important - you can do that all by yourself. “That lady is retired now and lives in Atlanta, and we still talk on Facebook. I always give her kudos for saying that to me. Those words have grounded me since I was in the 8th grade up until this very day. I passed that wisdom on to my daughter, and told her to pass it on to her daughter too.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The advice that I would give women in my industry is this: Know what you're getting into. If you're not a talker, if you’re not a go-getter, you're in the wrong profession. You need to be out there. It's not just selling yourself, but you're selling your brand. You're selling this company, because if this company makes money, you make money. You are the face and personality that represents this company, and you are the ones making these relationships with the clients. Because if clients are happy, guess what? They will throw more business your way from the people in their network.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
We're competitive. We're competing with other restoration companies. When we get a job, you might have ABC Company trying to get a bid for that same job. So we're going to do whatever it takes to get your business. That's a challenge, but if you know your job, and if you actually meet the person, your client, and you can get that rapport where you can vibe with them and they can vibe with you, you can meet down the middle and execute this and get that bid. You have to network - if you don't network, you won't succeed.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My faith in God. I definitely have to rely on that. My faith gets me through. You go through so many things in your life, and you realize that, hey, if it's not for Him, you wouldn't have the success. I've practiced that in both my work ethic as well as my personal life. I entered college right after graduating high school. I hated it. I decided to enroll in a business college just to get something under my belt. I received my Certificate of Completion as an Administrative Assistant. I made that work for me but when I turned 40 years old, I decided to return back to college and graduated with my degree in Business Management. That was one of the happiest and proudest moments of my life. I honestly believe that One is never too old to learn and receive a college degree.
