Her Story

About Rose

Rose Adon serves as Senior Veteran Specialist at Irvine Valley College. In this role for the past three years, she coordinates student services for veterans and military-connected students, acts as a VA school certifying official ensuring institutional compliance with Department of Veterans Affairs education benefits, and manages related processes. With ten years of experience in higher education and veteran services, her career path began at Saddleback College where she progressed from student helper to program assistant and other positions before moving to her current role at the sister institution. A veteran herself who served during the post-9/11 era, Rose Adon draws from her own transition challenges to support others through preventive work including therapy programs and skill readaptation. She is pursuing a bachelor's degree in psychology at Vanguard University, having previously attended Chapman University, with goals to complete a master's and pursue vocational rehabilitation counseling.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Rose

01What do you attribute your success to?

I owe a lot to my former boss Terrence Nelson. My family, my mom and dad have always supported me. My mom having the courage to leave her country to give me a better life. I want to make her proud and be a good example for my children.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't forget to be yourself. You matter too. It's okay to take care of yourself. It's okay to not be okay and to seek support. Asking for support makes you strong, not weak. Think of it as calling in air support.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honor, courage, and commitment, integrity. We try to be good people, always tell the truth, do the right thing even when no one is looking.
