Ten minutes with Rose

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a combination of perseverance, hard work, and a strong commitment to personal and professional growth. I am goal-driven and continuously look for opportunities to expand my knowledge, strengthen my skills, and take on new challenges. I have also been fortunate to have a supportive and nurturing manager who has invested in my development by encouraging my education, providing opportunities to build new skills, and recognizing my contributions through career advancement and promotions. Their support, combined with my own determination and willingness to learn, has given me the confidence to continue growing and pursuing new opportunities.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received is to be authentic and confident in the workplace. I have learned that if you have an idea, perspective, or potential solution, it is important to speak up rather than keeping it to yourself. An idea can never create an impact if no one knows it exists, and what may seem like a simple thought could ultimately be the solution a team or organization has been looking for. Being yourself, sharing your ideas, and having the confidence to contribute can open the door to meaningful opportunities and positive change.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the affordable housing and compliance industry is to be proactive about learning and finding opportunities to gain practical experience. Start by researching management companies in the multifamily housing industry and exploring entry-level positions that can provide a strong foundation. I also recommend taking advantage of the training and educational resources available through HUD and your state’s housing agency, as these can be valuable tools for developing a deeper understanding of housing programs, regulations, and compliance requirements. Most importantly, stay curious, continue building your knowledge, and look for opportunities to learn from experienced professionals as you grow in the field.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges I have encountered as a young professional in the affordable housing and compliance industry is overcoming assumptions about my level of experience and knowledge. At times, being younger can mean having to work harder to establish credibility, and it can be frustrating when your ideas are overlooked, you are talked over, or you are not included in important conversations and meetings. At the same time, the industry offers tremendous opportunities for growth and development. I see each challenge as an opportunity to continue learning, build my expertise, demonstrate my capabilities, and earn greater responsibility. I am focused on using those opportunities to grow professionally and contribute meaningfully to my organization and the communities we serve.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me are passion, a strong work ethic, integrity, reliability, and honesty. I believe passion and work ethic go hand in hand because caring about what you do motivates you to consistently give your best effort. I also believe in having an ownership mindset by taking initiative, being accountable for my responsibilities, and taking charge when opportunities arise. I understand that mistakes are a natural part of growth, so I focus on learning from them, making improvements, and using those experiences to become better. Above all, I strive to be someone others can trust and rely on, both professionally and personally.
